How Hyatt Regency in Virginia Solved Gym Noise with Reinforced Flooring

Posted by Ardent Fitness on May 1st 2025

We approach every project with precision and purpose. When the Hyatt Regency in Tysons Corner, VA, reached out with a recurring issue in their fitness center—noise and vibration from dropped weights—we knew it wasn’t just a flooring problem. It was a guest experience problem.

The Problem: Noise, Vibration & Guest Complaints

Guests were noticing—and commenting on—persistent noise and vibration transferring through the floors of the hotel’s fitness center. While the facility looked sharp, it wasn’t performing to the level required for a multi-story hospitality environment. The weight training area in particular was the source of most concerns: dropped barbells and dumbbells were creating shockwaves that could be felt and heard beyond the gym walls.

This is a scenario we encounter often in hospitality, residential high-rises, and mixed-use facilities. And it’s one that requires more than just a surface-level fix.

The Fix: Engineered Flooring for Heavy Use Areas

We developed a two-tiered solution tailored to the space:

  • Main Training Area: We installed Ecore Rally rubber flooring throughout the primary workout zone. This high-performance surface, made with recycled rubber, offers excellent shock absorption and traction—ideal for general fitness use and lighter weight training.

  • Reinforced Platform Zone: For the dedicated strength area, we created a raised platform with enhanced sound and impact absorption. This section includes:

    • A thick rubber underlayment to manage shock at the source

    • A stable plywood base for structural integrity

    • Our top-layer premium rubber flooring for long-term durability and consistent grip

The platform’s slight elevation, visible in the transition near the mirrors, creates a designated heavy-lifting zone without disrupting flow or visual cohesion. More importantly, it dramatically reduces impact reverberation and floor vibration.

Why It Matters: Common Issue, Proven Solution

We’re seeing growing demand for this type of solution. Operators of hotels, multifamily residences, and boutique training spaces are all facing similar issues: equipment that gets heavier, training that gets louder, and guests or residents who expect peace and quiet. Addressing these needs proactively is not just a matter of aesthetics—it’s about performance, safety, and long-term facility value.

Project Outcome: Quiet, Durable, Ready for Guests

The Hyatt team now has a facility that performs to the same standard it looks. The reinforced area absorbs impact effectively, protects the building’s structure, and gives hotel guests the ability to train without compromise. More images will be shared once final equipment is placed, but even now, the improvement is clear.
